John J. Noonan

Vice President for Facilities

John J. Noonan was appointed vice president for facilities effective July 1, 2011. His responsibilities at Duke include the oversight of the campus buildings and grounds, including a workforce of about 500 staff. Major functional areas include Physical Plant, Planning, Design & Construction, Engineering, Utilities, Energy, Grounds, Housekeeping, and Administration.

Noonan began as Associate Vice President for Facilities at Duke in June, 2005.  Before that, he was with Brown University for 13 years, most recently serving as vice president for facilities. He also held positions in consulting engineering and project management firms as well as in residential and commercial real estate development in California, New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. He holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a master’s degree in business administration from Columbia University and is a professional engineer.

The Facilities Management Department manages the operations and maintenance for campus facilities, grounds, and utilities; oversees project planning; coordinates design, renovation and construction for the overall operations of the University to ensure the ongoing safety, integrity, value and sustainability of Duke's world-class facilities.
