HOUSE COMMITTEE CONSIDERS PRESIDENT'S FY 2010 BUDGET PRIORITIES
The House Education and Labor Committee last week began the process of examining the 2010 budget priorities of the Obama administration. The two days of hearings featured Education Secretary Arne Duncan, Deputy Under Secretary Robert Shireman, and other key administration officials and higher ed leaders.

PRESIDENT SIGNS CREDIT CARD BILL INTO LAW
On May 22, President Obama signed the Credit Cardholder's Bill of Rights Act of 2009 (H.R. 627). The legislation contains several provisions intended to shield college students from exploitation from credit card companies.

WHITE HOUSE ANNOUNCES KEY NASA NOMINATIONS
The White House has announced the nomination of retired Marine general and space shuttle astronaut Charles F. Bolden Jr. to head the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Lori B. Garver, a former NASA official and adviser on space policy to Presidnt Obama during the campaign and transition, was nominated as NASA's deputy administrator.
