DETAILS OF FINAL FY11 APPROPRIATIONS BILL
Details of the final FY 11 appropriations bill have been made public.  Below is a listing of research and education programs of interest to the Duke community.  Please note, the figures below DO NOT include the 0.2% across-the-board cut for non-defense discretionary programs.

National Institutes of Health (NIH)

  • $30.7 billion, a $260 million reduction from FY 10
  • $50 million of this cut is from Building and Facilities, the rest is prorated across the institutes and Office of Director

National Science Foundation (NSF)

  • $6.87 billion, a cut $53 million from FY 10
  • $43 million of this cut is from Research, $10 million from Education
Department of Defense(DOD)
  • Basic research (6.1):  $1.95 billion, $76 billion above FY 10
Department of Energy
  • Office of Science:  $4.857 billion, a $35 million reduction from FY 10
  • ARPA-E:  $180 million, a $180 million increase above FY 10
  • EERE:  $1.78 billion, a $438 million reduction from FY 10

Department of Education – Student Aid and Higher Education Programs

  • Pell Grants:  Maximum award $5,550, same as FY 10
  • SEOG:  $737 million, a $20 million reduction from FY 10
  • TRIO:  $828 million, a $25 million reduction from FY 10
  • GEAR UP:  $303 million, a $20 million reduction from FY 10
  • FIPSE:  $19 million, a $140 million reduction from FY 10
Department of Education – International Education/Foreign Language Programs
  • $76 million, a $50 million reduction from FY 10
National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)
  • $155 million, a $13 million reduction from FY 10
National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA)
  • A $175 million reduction from FY10
    -  $38 million of this cut is from Education, $83 million from Cross Agency Support, and $54 million from Construction/Environ Compliance
