REP. DAVID PRICE AUTHORS RESOLUTION HONORING THE DUKE MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM

Dear Colleague:

I hope you will join me in cosponsoring a resolution honoring Duke University’s men’s basketball team as the 2010 NCAA Division I Tournament Champions.

The Duke Blue Devils have a long history of success in men’s basketball.  They’ve played in fifteen Final Fours and have won titles in 1991, 1992, 2001, and 2010.  For the 2009-2010 season, the Blue Devils went undefeated on their home court in Cameron Indoor Stadium and completed their season with a record of 35-5, tied with the Kentucky Wildcats for most wins of the season.  The team also tied for the best record in the ACC regular season at 13-3 and won their record eighteenth ACC championship.  My resolution would congratulate the Duke Blue Devils for this historic season.

Special credit is also due to head coach Mike Krzyzewski, who improved his record to 867-279, won his seventy-seventh NCAA tournament game, the most in NCAA history, and won his fourth national championship, tied with Adolph Rupp for second most in NCAA history.

I am proud of the whole team, as well as their coaches and staff, for demonstrating outstanding performance in the nation’s most competitive and most-watched college athletics tournament.  But I also want to commend their representation of Duke University, a Top Ten university annually recognized as a national leader in academics and research.  In addition to performing well on the court, the team has consistently shown appreciation to their fans, good sportsmanship toward their opponents, and respect for the game of basketball.

Representing both the Duke Blue devils and the UNC Tar Heels - both sides of college basketball’s most intense rivalry – I understand the importance of team loyalties to Members of Congress.  But I also know that we can all agree that the Blue Devils should be commended for reaching the summit of men’s college basketball this year.  For more information, or to become a cosponsor of this resolution, please contact Kate Roetzer of my staff at 5-1784 or kate.roetzer@mail.house.gov.

Sincerely,

David Price
Member of Congress
