Don’t let the Grinch steal your holiday spirit

December 08, 2009As the holiday season approaches, the Duke University Police Department reminds students, faculty and staff to follow basic safety precautions to help maintain a safe and secure campus.

John Dailey, Duke police chief, said that at this time of year, crimes of opportunity involve property theft, but simple precautions go a long way. He encouraged Duke community members not to leave personal property unattended and reminded students and employees not to leave packages or electronics such as laptops and GPS devices in plain view in parked cars.

Dailey also urged the Duke community to report suspicious activity immediately to Duke police by calling 9-1-1 or (919) 684-2444.

“We don’t want a crime to mar someone’s otherwise happy holiday season,” Dailey said.
