Duke Police increasing patrols following Circuit Drive robbery
A Duke graduate student reported he was robbed at gunpoint Friday night as he walked to his car on Circuit Drive.
The student said he was approached by four males at around 10:30 p.m. He said the suspects, one of whom reportedly had a handgun, demanded his wallet and cell phone. The student said he was hit by one of the suspects, who were last seen heading toward Erwin Road.
The student was examined by medical personnel at the scene but not sent for any further medical attention. He is receiving support from Student Affairs.
The student provided a description for one of the suspects, who was described as a black male in his late teens to early 20's, approximately 5-feet, 8-inches tall, with a medium complexion and a slim build. The suspect reportedly was wearing a tan cap, brown jacket and green plaid shirt.
The Duke University Police Department and Durham Police have been searching the area since the incident occurred. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Duke Police at (919) 684-2444 or Durham Police at (919) 560-4427.
Duke Police also encouraged students needing after-hours transportation to contact Duke Van Services at (919) 684-2020. The service provides on-demand transportation from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. within a defined boundary area.
