Dealing with the police or a state agency can be a scary, confusing, and frustrating experience. Duke currently does not provide services to students involved in off-campus incidents. Indeed, Judicial Affairs may use information received from local authorities to penalize undergraduates (Chronicle Story Here).

Because DuSLA is comprised entirely of students, the group cannot represent you in court or give you legal advice. However, we can provide the names of several attorneys in the area who have agreed with us to take student cases and who MAY offer reduced-fee legal services.

DuSLA can also provide you a record of previous cases which may be similar to yours.

To arrange for a legal referral or see our records, please contact DuSLA or visit us during our office hours. http://www.apple.com/mailto:dusla@duke.edu?subject=Off-Campus%20Requestshapeimage_2_link_0shapeimage_2_link_1

While DuSLA does not itself provide legal services, we provide assistance for on-campus disciplinary hearings as allowed by Duke Judicial Affairs in addition to legal referrals to licensed local attorneys. DuSLA is students who help other students with information (not advice).

DuSLA cannot and DOES NOT PROVIDE LEGAL ADVICE or any interpretation of any State or Federal laws. If you need such information, please contact a qualified attorney.

No member of DuSLA can, does, or attempts to practice law, provide legal advice, or represent him or herself as a lawyer.
