James S. Roberts

Executive Vice Provost for Finance and Administration

A veteran of more than 20 years in the Provost’s Office, Jim Roberts leads the budgets, planning and institutional research group within the office. His work involves supporting the provost, deans and other senior officers in planning the allocation of resources, operational effectiveness, human resource management and a variety of institutional reporting and analysis tasks. 

Roberts has broad responsibilities for coordinating student administrative services, including functional ownership of the PeopleSoft student administration system, which supports each school of the university as well as several central offices.  Roberts, who leads the provost’s academic space planning working group, is also an adjunct professor in the history department.

Roberts earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University, master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Iowa, and an M.B.A. from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business.
